A stay at the Palacete Rodriquez, Anjuna, Goa

Image
Hi,  This is a guest post from a friend. I am sharing this for two reasons. 1) It's a review of a hotel which apparently had good ratings and reviews online which is why they made a booking in the first place 2) It's insanely funny. So, let's give the gentleman a say.  The Palacete Rodriquez, Anjuna, Goa "Pros - Has two very cute ginger kittens Cons - Horrible rooms, zero maintenance, got bedbug bites all over after sleeping for an hour. The room smelled like they hid a corpse in the closet. My friend and I fell ill after using the swimming pool. I am sure the towels were donated during World war I. The Air conditioner is like a mantelpiece. The water heater isn't supposed to serve hot water. Indus Valley civilization had better plumbing. The lights flicker more than all horror movies combined. The staff appear to be friendly until they show their true colours which is nothing short of hooliganism. Seems like they follow the footsteps of the ...

Sampoorn Santhe- Back to Nature, at Kalakshetra

Image
I have always been curious when it comes to exhibitions. I need to step inside and look at all the wares on display. When I spotted the yellow banner of Sampoorn Santhe, I couldn't contain myself from going in, inspite of feeling a little under the weather. Just a quick look, I promised myself . This is not a review, but a crisp information photo walk.  The Sampoorn Santhe revolves around the "Back to Nature" theme and is at the spacious Kalakshetra Foundation. You will find car parking in their main campus which is right across the road. It is on until this weekend (15th October 2017), open from 10 am to 8 pm. There is no entry fee charged.  I must confess this is just a partial representation of all the lovely things they have to offer. The afternoon sun was harsh and I was feeling unwell and rushed home for some respite. I could cover only about 10 stalls at the Santhe. These little ceramic birds grabbed my attention. They would look so pr...

Rasgullas and Peanut butter - The Farm, Chennai

Image
My sister picked up a pot of Rasgullas, and a jar of peanut butter with cranberry from this place called "The Farm", in Chennai. The Rasgullas were soft, spongy, mildly sweet (I am not too fond of over the top sweetness), and fresh just like the homemade ones. They come in a simple earthen pot with a pretty checkered cloth fastened around the mouth of the pot. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of the rasgullas and their rustic container (Blame it on my childhood love affair with rasgullas)  Peanut butter with cranberry. What a lovely mix of flavours. The butter was mildly sweet and had a generous mix of cranberries in it.  The bread was soft and I couldn't put a lot of pressure. With a little effort I guess the butter can be spread evenly. The butter was not refrigerated.  I would have loved to write more about these goodies, but the people who run the farm refused to give any details. I was put off with the rigid response I ...

The Blog's Purpose

Image
Hi there, Let me tell you what you will find in this blog. You will find reviews or rather my experiences with products and services I use, food I eat, shops I visit and places I stay.  So you could ask me, what's different about your blog from the many other blogs floating around in blog-galaxy. Well, I'll give you just this one instance, when I bought this expensive tiffin box worth Rs.3000/- and didn't have a great experience with it. Around the same time I found a few bloggers raving about the same leaky tiffin box. Most reviews these days we find on online shopping sites are paid for. I want to create a space where I plan to keep my feedback short, simple and honest.  That's all this is. A simple, honest blog.  *My thanks to the photographer of this lovely picture and Pixels.

Vaya Tyffyn review

Image
Vaya Tyffyn - Pretty but leaks!  I stumbled upon the Vaya Tyffyn box on Facebook. Curious to know more, as I was looking to convert my husband to using steel lunch boxes instead of the ubiquitous Tupperware, I checked their page. The website advertised, among other features, leak-proof lids and that clinched the deal to buy the heavily expensive tyffyn box. The tyffyn box was delivered on time and the copper finish was pretty! The bag that comes along with the tyffyn box can be unzipped into a mat, and space has been thoughtfully provided to keep your spoon/fork.  My husband carried his brand new tyffyn to work, and later at lunch to his dismay, he found that the contents had leaked out of the supposedly leak proof container lids. What was intended to be a luxurious experience from a tyffyn box turned out to be a messy affair. After having spent about 3000 rupees for a tyffyn box I was miffed and wrote an email to the Vaya team. They responded saying that, only t...

Bees wax balms to help your sniffles.

Image
Ah ! The monsoons are here... time to enjoy the rains and all the beauty that it brings. The rains and the change in season also bring in the sniffles. I picked up a few balms last December from a rustic looking shop in the Nilgiris. They have quite a few fragrances, and I bought the Camphor and Eucalyptus since I am prone to catching a cold. I have been using them since then and I must admit I have become kinda addicted to them. They are mild, non-sticky and smell natural, and I have to practice great self restraint to not open the lid now and then and take a sniff of the Eucalyptus balm. I prefer to use these to the popular brands sold over the counter in pharmacies. They come in pretty boxes with gold coloured lids and look pretty fancy for a balm! The listed Ingredients are beeswax, olive oil, essence. The price of a 20gm bottle is Rs.130/- and the shelf life is 2 years. The above opinion is purely a product of my brain, my genetic material, my life experiences ...
