Vaya Tyffyn review

Vaya Tyffyn - Pretty but leaks!

I stumbled upon the Vaya Tyffyn box on Facebook. Curious to know more, as I was looking to convert my husband to using steel lunch boxes instead of the ubiquitous Tupperware, I checked their page. The website advertised, among other features, leak-proof lids and that clinched the deal to buy the heavily expensive tyffyn box. The tyffyn box was delivered on time and the copper finish was pretty! The bag that comes along with the tyffyn box can be unzipped into a mat, and space has been thoughtfully provided to keep your spoon/fork.

My husband carried his brand new tyffyn to work, and later at lunch to his dismay, he found that the contents had leaked out of the supposedly leak proof container lids. What was intended to be a luxurious experience from a tyffyn box turned out to be a messy affair. After having spent about 3000 rupees for a tyffyn box I was miffed and wrote an email to the Vaya team. They responded saying that, only the tyffyn case as a unit is leak proof and that we should not tilt the lunch box to prevent leaks. I found no such instruction on their website at that point in time.

My understanding of a leak proof box is a container that does not leak no matter how you place it. Even a vessel with no lid when placed upright can be called leak proof, if we go by Vaya's suggestion, that it needs to be upright all the time. I also don't understand the point of dabbas that leak into a leak proof case. It still gets messy, right? (Pictures attached)

Vaya Tyffyn is just like the name they have coined for the humble tiffin dabba. Looks fancy and that's all there is to it.

The above opinion is purely a product of the gooey stuff enclosed in my cranium, along with my life experiences and the way I perceive things. I paid full price for the Vaya Tyffyn and the Company has in no way influenced my opinion. I am sharing this review only to help people make an informed decision.
